COLUMBIA, S.C. (April 22, 2026) — Hardy, known for its excellence in innovation, is proud to announce the new Averon Streamer Fly Reel, the first fly reel designed specifically for streamer fishing. Developed in collaboration with Kelly Galloup and built on Hardy’s proven Averon platform, the Averon Streamer has been engineered to deliver performance features that matter most when fishing streamers: rapid line pickup, reduced line memory, enhanced control and dependable durability in demanding conditions.
Crafted in partnership with Kelly Galloup, whose influence on streamer fishing has helped shape the way many anglers approach the technique today, the Averon Streamer reflects a focused, on-the-water understanding of what dedicated streamer anglers need from their gear. From line control to speed of response, every detail of the reel was considered through the lens of streamer performance.
“Nobody has ever built a reel specifically for streamer fishing,” said Kelly Galloup. “For years, the industry has said, ‘Just use whatever reel you’ve got,’ which you can. But when I’m hunting THE fish, I want a reel that does exactly what I need it to do. That’s why we built this.”
Streamer fishing is fast paced, aggressive, and dynamic by nature with anglers targeting the largest, most predatory trout that will test your abilities and that of your gear. The Hardy Averon Streamer reel was created with those demands in mind. At the core is an extra-large arbor designed to reduce line coil and memory while increasing line pickup speed, while the nearly friction-free incoming retrieve allows the reel to spin freely and clear slack line quickly with a slap of the rim. This helps anglers clear line from the bottom of the boat in a hurry and avoids stepping on the line, one of the most common mistakes Galloup sees anglers make that often results in break-offs.
The reel also features a widened spool rim and increased spool mass to enhance rotational momentum and durability, helping anglers manage line more efficiently while standing up to hard use. A larger handle and counterbalance improve grip and control, while the audible outgoing click delivers the classic Hardy sound anglers know and appreciate. Finished in a durable bead-blasted matte black anodization, the Averon Streamer pairs rugged performance with Hardy’s signature attention to detail.
