Fly Fishing Gear Review: The Tough Puff Pants from Patagonia

We don’t say much about pants on The Venturing Angler. I mean, for the most part, what’s there to say?! But when it comes to the Tough Puff Pants from Patagonia, we’ve got something to say.

When the Tough Puff Jacket came out several years ago, I wrote a review praising it as the greatest jacket ever made. (And as far as I’m concerned, that remains true to this day.) This year, Patagonia introduced their new Tough Puff Pants — a piece very much like the jacket (but they’re pants).

Designed to keep anglers warm and comfortable under their waders, the Patagonia Tough Puff pants surely live up to their purpose. These pants feel incredible lightweight, warm, and the cushiony feel almost feels like you’re wearing a sleeping bag around your legs. That might sound like an odd way to describe it, but the description fits!

Since getting a hold of these pants in March, I’ve probably worn them about 100 days — in the house and around town. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll wear them this winter on the water, but they are so comfortable, it’s hard to just save them for fishing days. They get worn a lot at home!
