When Simms announced their new G4 PRO Wading Boots last year, they certainly turned a lot of heads. Emphasizing durability, Simms provided a long list of technologies and design features to highlight how durable these boots are. Hardcore anglers go through boots quickly … too quickly. So claims of durability stand out to anglers who put in a lot day days on the water each year.
We spent some time with the Simms G4 PRO Wading Boots and couldn’t be more impressed. Having owned countless pairs of different wading boots over the years, the little things stand out on these boots. First, they feel more like snowboarding boots than many other wading boots I’ve had. Maybe this is an overstatement, but they do have a heavy but tough feel, and it looks like Simms paid attention to the smallest details to perhaps overdesign for the sake of more durability.
One of the first things that stands out is the Vibram sole that seem welded (another overstatement) into the boot. There are also TPU overlays that give added durability to generally vulnerable areas of wading boots. You know how it goes — one area of a pair of boots starts to come apart and then there seems to be a domino effect. These overlays will surely add to the lifespan of these boots.
After the durability, these boots feel great. I’ve said this before: I like heavy boots. In water, they seem to add a little bit of an anchor to your feed and help with balance. (Just a theory.) Boots with Vibram soles are generally heavy, but they are the best grip around and are as durable as can be. I’ve had some bad luck with boots in recent years, but the Simms G4 PRO Wading Boots feel great all day. They fit the foot like a boot ought to but rarely does. With that, despite the weight, these boots feel great to wear all day. Huge.
Simms has built in a number of features into these boots — some are nice, others I am indifferent to. But one feature that is especially nice is their low profile lacing system that is designed to prevent line from catching on the laces and loops. Brilliant!
The Simms G4 PRO Wading Boots cost $299.95 and are available in sizes 7-14.
