COLUMBIA, S.C. (Oct 6, 2026) — Hardy introduces Tactus, its most advanced light-line rod series developed specifically around the demands of light-line fishing techniques including technical dry-fly fishing and modern European-style nymphing. Designed by Hardy lead rod designer and World Championship-winning angler Howard Croston, the collection combines lightweight Sintrix FLT construction with highly refined tapers and technique-specific components to give anglers greater control over the connection between rod, line, leader and fly.
Rather than applying a single rod action across a range of lengths and line weights, Tactus is divided into dedicated Dry Fly and Nymphing families, with each model engineered around the intended applications. The result is a collection that spans highly specialized tools for delicate dry-fly presentation and tight-line nymphing alongside versatile crossover models capable of adapting to a broader range of technical light-line applications.
At the foundation of every Tactus rod is Hardy’s Sintrix FLT technology, which reduces unnecessary blank weight without sacrificing strength. Less mass allows the rod to recover quickly and increases feel and responsiveness, while specially developed tapers determine the loading characteristics, recovery, and power required for each model’s intended technique. Lightweight titanium components and application-specific guide configurations further preserve responsiveness throughout the series.
Tactus Nymphing Rod Family:
Modern Euro nymphing places very different demands on a fly rod than conventional fly-line techniques. With long, thin leaders and very little mass outside the rod tip, anglers depend on the rod itself to load under light setups, maintain direct contact throughout the drift and protect fine tippet, while still retaining enough power to control larger fish in current.
Every Tactus Nymphing rod addresses those demands with two interchangeable tips, allowing anglers to more precisely match the rod’s performance to the rig being fished. The all new solid nano-carbon tip loads under minimal weight, providing maximum sensitivity when fishing light nymphs, fine leaders and mono-based setups. The traditional tubular carbon tip delivers a more traditional loading characteristic with greater support for heavier flies, multi-fly rigs, and conventional fly lines. Together, the system significantly broadens the capability of each rod without compromising the specialized performance expected from a dedicated nymphing platform.
Purpose-driven construction continues throughout the rod. A high stand-off stripping guide is positioned low on the butt section to help minimize line sag and maintain direct contact, while an unground blank finish helps reduce the tendency of wet monofilament to adhere to the rod. Double-legged snake guides toward the tip help prevent leader wrap, and a down-locking reel seat improves balance across the longer rod lengths. Supple tips provide sensitivity and control with fine tippet, while powerful lower sections retain the reserves needed for larger fish and stronger currents.
FEATURES:
• Two-tip system: tubular carbon for heavier rigs; solid nano-carbon for light flies and fine leaders
• Extended lengths (10 ft +) maximise reach and drift control
• Sintrix FLT resin produces extreme lightness without sacrificing strength
• Down-locking reel seat optimises balance for long-rod applications
• Low stripping guide reduces line sag and maintains direct contact
• Unground blank surface prevents monofilament leaders from sticking
• Double-leg snake guides in the tip reduce leader wrap and enhance stability
• High-recovery action for precise casting and sensitivity
• Soft tips for maximum shock absorption and tippet protection

Tactus Dry Fly Rod Family:
Where Euro nymphing is built around maintaining contact, technical dry-fly fishing demands precise control of the fly line and leader while preserving delicate presentations. Tactus Dry Fly rods were developed for anglers fishing light lines, long leaders and fine tippet where accurate placement, controlled turnover and drag-free presentations determine success.
Fast-recovering Sintrix FLT blanks allow the rod to recover quickly following the cast, improving accuracy and control when presenting small dries at distance or managing long leaders. Specially developed tapers provide the loading characteristics required for subtle presentations while maintaining the line speed and power needed when wind, larger water, or bigger trout complicate the equation.
The family begins with highly specialized dry-fly models and expands into longer rods offering versatility and increased reach and mending capability for big-river dries, dry-dropper fishing, wet flies and select tight-line nymphing applications.
FEATURES:
• Sintrix FLT construction for exceptional lightness and responsiveness
• Refined tapers provide precision and delicacy for technical dry-fly fishing
• Fast-recovering blanks maintain accuracy with long leaders and subtle casts
• 9’2” length optimizes accuracy, reach, and mending control. While the 9’9” length prioritizes reach and mending control with a versatile design that crosses into tightline nymphing when required
• 9’9” lengths prioritizes reach and mending control with a versatile design that crosses into tightline nymphing when required
• Ceramic-lined titanium stripper guides and titanium recoil snakes
• Lightweight custom reel seat
• Aluminium ferrule plugs
• Designed to master fine-tippet, drag-free presentations on challenging waters

“With Tactus, every design decision begins with the technique and the connection the angler needs to maintain with the fly,” said Hardy lead rod designer and World Championship-winning angler Howard Croston “The Dry Fly rods are designed to manage light lines and long leaders with exceptional precision, while the Nymphing rods address the very different demands of direct-contact fishing. Sintrix FLT gives Howard the foundation to create those highly specialized tapers without adding unnecessary weight, and the two-tip system takes that thinking even further by allowing nymph anglers to tune the rod more precisely to the rig they are fishing.”
Together, the Tactus Dry Fly and Nymphing families provide a purpose-built collection for anglers who increasingly employ multiple technical light-line methods across a season. Some models are specialists by design, while others deliberately blur the boundaries between techniques. Across all eight, the objective re
