VENTURA, Calif. — Patagonia has a plan to reach millions of environmentalists who did not vote in the 2024 U.S. General Election.

The company announced today it will launch the 11.2 Million Vote Project this Saturday, Sept. 26, which is Public Lands Day. There are 90 million acres of public land at threat across the U.S, and research from the Environmental Voter Project found that 11.2 million registered-to-vote environmentalists did not vote in the 2024 election.

The outdoor apparel business will ask its U.S. customers and community to encourage friends and family to make a plan to vote in the upcoming midterms. Participants who get three people to create a plan to vote will earn a $100 credit to redeem on patagonia.com or in a Patagonia retail store, or they can opt for Patagonia to donate $100 to the League of Conservation Voters.

If the 11.2 Million Vote Project is successful, 112,000 people will get $100 off their Patagonia order or make a $100 donation. This means Patagonia is committing up to $11.2 million to help its community engage their friends and family to make a plan to vote. The program could reach 336,000 people (112,000 participants contacting at least three others).

A plan to vote identifies relevant deadlines and voting locations to remove the guesswork for voters. Each voter can choose whether to vote early, vote in person or vote by mail, based on the rules where they live.

The 11.2 Million Vote Project is nonpartisan. Participation is open without regard to party affiliation, voting intention or location. Users can sign up here to be notified when the project launches.

Patagonia has been encouraging the community to vote with the environment in mind since 1978, when it first placed an advertisement in a local Ventura newspaper to get out the vote. The company has offered time and resources to employees and customers to vote the environment since 2004, and it has closed its U.S. offices, stores and warehouse for every federal election since 2016. In 2018, Patagonia co-founded Time to Vote, a nonpartisan nationwide business-led movement to ensure workers don’t have to choose between earning a paycheck and voting. Time to Vote now includes more than 2,000 companies.
