From Echo:
WOODLAND, WA — Echo Fly Rods announces the release of the new Overcast series, a purpose-built saltwater fly rod designed in collaboration between Echo founder Tim Rajeff and legendary angler Flip Pallot.
“Who wouldn’t want more line speed?”
That question from Flip Pallot sparked the design of a rod built to meet the realities of saltwater fishing including wind, long casts, heavy flies, and the need for accuracy under pressure. In the hands of a skilled angler, increased line speed overcomes many of these challenges. The solution is a longer lever, refined carefully to maintain balance, recovery, and control.
After months of prototyping and testing, Tim and Flip landed on the ideal length of 9’3”. Available in 6 through 10 weights, every Overcast rod is designed to maximize line speed while preserving feel and precision.
The Overcast features a matte black finish with red thread wraps, Cericoil stripper guides with SIC inserts, and TICN-coated snake guides to reduce friction and enhance casting performance. Flip’s modified full wells grip, exposed upper reel seat with compact fighting butt, and custom reel seat with reel foot indicators and integrated hook recess reflect the thoughtful design behind every detail. A line-size thread wrap above the logo makes rod identification easy when stored in a holder.
Each rod includes the new Echo Rod Wrap, also designed by Pallot, featuring impact-resistant foam layered between durable fabric. The wrap secures a single rod and can accommodate up to three, making it an ideal travel and boat companion.
Tim and Flip spent nearly a year bringing the Overcast from vision to reality. Final component updates had just been completed when Flip was tragically taken from us. More than a collaborator, he was a friend and an inspiration. The Overcast stands as his legacy at Echo, a rod built without compromise and designed to elevate the angler holding it.
The Overcast series is available now through authorized Echo dealers.
