Wil Flack is a Canadian-born guide who splits time between Belize and Canada (when he is not traveling to other fly fishing destinations). A permit and steelhead junkie, he certainly likes taking on some of the more challenging species. Flack recently took on an interview for The Venturing Angler:

Where in the world have you fly fished?

Wow, it’s a long list! I grew up on the West Coast of B.C. so all the water around there plus a bunch more in Canada. Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Florida, Washington, Japan, Hawaii, Fiji, Tonga, Tahiti, Australia, Bahamas, Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela, Bolivia, Belize, and most of the countries in Central America.

What is your favorite destination and why?

Belize. Permit.

What is the most memorable travel experience you have and why?

There’s so many too choose from … hard to narrow it down to just one! One moment recently that sticks out is the whole Bolivia trip. Feels like you’re Doctor Jones.

What has been the best trip so far and why?

I take a lot of great things from trips! Great memories and great people. The fishing is always a bonus. I think this question should be WORST TRIP ever. 🙂

Do you have any travel coming up?

Steelhead back home in B.C. this fall. South Pacific and Argentina later this year.

Is there a specie that you are dying to catch? What is it about that fish?

Believe it or not I haven’t caught an Indo permit yet. The South African crew says they can help me with that.

When you are not on the water, what do you want the most out of a trip and why?

Adventure and experience. Provides the stories for your grandkids …

What is your dream trip and why?

I have a few bucket list trips left. Seychelles and New Zealand top that list.

If one song where to play in a video short of your most recent fly fishing trip, what would it be?

Klug would say Celine Dion … hahahaha … On my latest trip to Cuba last month I listened to a lot of hip-hop.

What is the one piece of gear you couldn’t bear to leave at home?

Costa shades. Can’t see anything without them and couldn’t do my job.

As you have traveled, what environmental issues have most concerned you?

That’s easy … PLASTIC. It’s f*cking everywhere!
