Tell Congress to Defend National Monuments

sierra

A leaked document reveals that Department of Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke intends to recommend to the president that 10 national monuments are compromised to accommodate business interests. Some of the monuments mights be shrinked while others will be deregulated to allow for mining, drilling, and commercial fishing. This can’t happen.

  1. We’re fighting a losing battle with Montana’s Ryan Zinke. He is extremely incompetent and so far to the right end extreme that he is very dangerous to our public lands (lands of all the people and not just for the rich and private hands). His proposal to allow trophy hunting in national parks and monuments if lat out scary…we know that every large land mammal in the lower 48 has seen its population fall by at least 1/2 and some species are totally gone (like the caribou) and others are near extinction in the lower 48. These islands of safe preserves need to be large to be effective…..and he and Trump are planning to downsize several to a point where they won’t help protect any large land mammals. We better realize as Dr Jane Goodall has carefully analyzed – hunting and hunters are not conservationists. If they were, they would stop hunting several large land mammals who are in danger without the need for protections.
