California Trout is working to return the Eel River to “abundance” with their innovative approaches to improving habitats throughout river systems. Part III of this video series looks at barrier removal efforts.
“CalTrout is taking a headwaters to estuary approach to restoration in the Eel River watershed. In Part III of this four-part series, we look at removing barriers. Hundreds of miles of tributaries are impassable– key salmon spawning grounds cut off by a myriad of barriers. These barrier need to come down. CalTrout has identified barriers for removal. One is down, one is in process with over a dozen to go.
Once the barriers are removed, salmon and steelhead will have access to hundreds of miles of natal spawning habitat.”
