The Patagonia Nano Puff® Jacket was reviewed on the Venturing Angler a while back; however, as the jacket has undergone changes recently, it’s worth revisiting the jacket.
The Patagonia Nano Puff® Jacket is an outstanding jacket for fly anglers. As anglers often get overloaded with gear, this refreshingly lightweight jacket allows for warmth, water-resistance, and a shield from the wind without bulking up.
For traveling anglers, this jacket compresses tightly to fit easily in bags and packs, thus allowing for more bag space when traveling long distances, and being able to pack the jacket into your pack when it’s warming on the water is a nice luxury.
The Nano Puff® is a jacket that is perfect for a range of weather conditions. From cool summer evenings to cold, wet days. This jacket is likely to satisfy your outwear needs. If it gets more frigid, the Nano Puff® can be thrown over a baselayer for added comfort.
As mentioned, this jacket has undergone changes recently, and for the men’s Nano Puff®, this mostly deals with fit. For increased fit, comfort, and performance, these jackets now fit tighter in the torso. Hugging the body more might mean changing sizes. If you wore a medium in the old Nano Puff®, you might be a large with the new jacket. Going up a size might make the jacket slighlty longer and give you more room in the sleeves, but the jacket will generally maintain a similar fit to the older version of the jacket.
All around, this is a fantastic piece of gear that I wear throughout the year, wind, rain, snow, and shine. Lightweight and easy to take anywhere, it’s actually rare that I don’t have it with me.
