Costa Rica may not be the first place to come to mind when it comes to tarpon, but historically, this country has offered some of the best tarpon fishing in the world. This country and Casa Mar Lodge are the focus of a film from Jesse Males and Backwater Media Productions.

“In the 70’s and 80’s, Casa Mar Lodge in Costa Rica was the tarpon Mecca of the world. All the greats of saltwater fly fishing and angling arrived in there in the jungle to test their skills. Over the decades, this legendary place would eventually get swallowed by the jungle. The stories were suppressed, and history was almost forgotten.
After producing the film in late 2023 and then having the project spend a full year on the film festival tour in 2025, I present to you the full edit of Casa Mar – New Beginnings, a film sequel to my 2022 Drake Magazin Movie of the Year award-winning film, TheLEGEND OF CASA MAR!
