Video: Fly Fishing for Steelhead on the Dean River

The Dean River in British Columbia is one of the most well-regarded steelhead rivers in the world, and it is the focus of a video from Todd Moen and Catch Magazine.

From Catch Magazine:

“Fly fishing on the Dean River, British Columbia is more than chasing steelhead, it’s about tradition, time, and the people who shape a place. In this film, Todd Moen narrates for the first time, returning to the legendary Dean River and Kimsquit Bay Lodge to reunite with longtime friends Jeff and Kathryn Hickman and their son Oly, skating dry flies for steelhead with classic R.L. Winston bamboo fly rods while reflecting on nearly 20 years of filming for Catch Magazine in one of the most iconic steelhead regions on earth.

British Columbia has been one of those places for Todd, a constant thread throughout his career. He reflects on time spent with many special anglers and lodge owners over the past two decades, witnessing how relationships grow, how families evolve, and how these rivers continue to connect generations.

This film revisits those connections, meeting back up with the Hickmans after years of shared seasons, shared stories, and pushing the limits of what authentic fly fishing films can be. Set in the Great Bear Rainforest, it’s a reminder that rivers don’t just move water forward; they carry legacies.”
